Under the theme Remembering the 50s, the evening features a homestyle pot roast dinner, silent auction and a nostalgia filled program with master storyteller Bob Gasch. Gasch will elicit memories from the audience while weaving together local and national events, places and people from the 1950s.

Tickets are $25. For an additional $15, a coach bus will be taken from the historical museum in Fergus Falls with stops at the BP stations in Battle Lake and Ottertail. Enjoy snacks and a beverage on the bus and leave the driving to us. The bus loads at 4:15 and leaves the museum parking lot at 4:30, Battle Lake at 5:00 and Ottertail at 5:30.

Home Brewers Festival at Eagles

August 11, 2008

Sample the area’s finest home made wine and beer at the Otter Tail County Historical Society’s annual Home Brewers Festival on Friday, August 22, 7:00 p.m. upstairs at the Eagles Club in Fergus Falls.
The Brewers Fest features local beer and wine makers providing samples of their best product. Since they cannot commercially sell their wine or beer, the Brewers Festival is the only opportunity for the public to sample what they have made. With over twenty home brewers participating there will be a wide selection ranging from grape to craison wine and pale ale to chocolate stout beer. If you do not indulge, Stumbeano’s locally roasted coffee will be served.
There will also be a silent auction of beer and wine held throughout the evening. This in an opportunity to take home what you have sampled and at the same time raise funds for the historical society.
The Eagles Club is an ideal location for this event. Constructed in 1946 in the shape of sea-going liner, it was the dream of Fergus Falls brewery owner Heinie Heinrich. According to Jim Gray’s book Building from the Past, “Heinrich used the ship was used for lavish entertaining and was the delight of customers who came from great distances.” The lower level was used as a storeroom for the brewery. The Eagles Club bought the ship in 1961 where it has served as the club’s home since.
If you are looking for an event that is fun, unique and “lavishly entertaining,” then attend the Home Brewers Festival on Friday, August 22, beginning at 7:00 p.m. No one under 21 will be admitted.

Anyone who makes a monetary contribution to our Gerda Project will receive special recognition this evening. Mail checks payable to the Otter Tail County Historical Society and mail them to: 1110 W. Lincoln Ave., Fergus Falls, MN 56537. Donations of $250 or more will receive a fine quality print of Gerda.

Gerda Project Featured in the Fergus Falls Daily Journal

April 2, 2008

Paint hit the canvas on Friday, March 28, during the Historical Society’s Friday morning coffee and discussion with artist Lance Albers. The Fergus Falls Daily Journal printed a copy of the original artwork for all to enjoy or hate – be that as it may. It’s a painting that can get a reaction across the spectrum of emotions. It has hung in the museum’s saloon exhibit since the early 1980s. This project will cost just over $3,000. Contribute $250 or more and you will receive a quality print. Checks can be make out to the Otter Tail County Historical Society and mailed to 1110 W. Lincoln Ave., Fergus Falls, MN 56537.

Fergus Falls Daily Journal Article by Tom Hintgen

An added bonus of the photo printed on the Journal is one of three Charles Beck prints we have hanging in the museum library. It is directly behind Lance.
