MN Sesquicentennial Mosaic “Greetings From Minnesota”

August 6, 2008

MN Sesquicentennial Mosaic “Greetings From Minnesota” will be unveiled on Thursday, August 21 at 10 a.m. at the MN State Fair Grounds.

About the giant postcard (from the MN Sesquicentennial website):

Greetings from Minnesota! is a public art piece in the form of a monumental travel postcard to commemorate the 2008 Minnesota Statehood sesquicentennial and leave a legacy for all Minnesotans to enjoy. It’s slated to become a permanent installation at the Minnesota State Fair.

Created in mosaic and handmade tile, this public art piece will be a collaboration of community members throughout Minnesota. We would like as many participants as possible to contribute their ideas. Imagery within the postcard will celebrate history, regional landmarks and myth, arts and culture, ways of life, and capture the spirit of Minnesota. Handmade county-specific tiles border the postcard, with design input from citizens in each of the 87 counties in Minnesota.

Minnesota Digital Library

April 18, 2007

I met with Marian Rengel, Outreach Coordinator for the Minnesota Digital Library Coalition, yesterday to discuss the possibility of our participation in Phase 3 of “Minnesota Reflections”. Check out the Minnesota Digital Library and specifically the images that we have submitted so far, and give us some suggestions as to which kind of images you would like to see. They are accepting images, documents and maps created through December 31, 1949. Let us know what you think of this project! -Kathy Evavold
