April 20, 2010

The Otter Tail County Historical Society continues the Military Roundtable discussion with look at Fort Snelling in World War II. Historian and Minnesota Military History expert Stephen E. Osman will discuss and answer questions about Fort Snelling’s role in World War II on Monday, May 3, 2010 at noon. Osman, who is retired now, worked for the Minnesota Historical Society as the site manager at Fort Snelling. He has conducted research on every aspect of military life at Fort Snelling from details about uniforms to drill and training methods.

Otter Tail County Historical Society Awarded Legacy Grant

January 5, 2010

Without a concerted effort, our state’s historic and cultural treasures are in danger of being lost to time. The Minnesota Historical Society recently awarded a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant to the Otter Tail County Historical Society. The grant was approved by MHS’s awards committee to support a Water Abatement Project.
Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants are made possible by the Minnesota Legislature from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund created with passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment to the state constitution in November 2008. The grants are awarded to support projects of enduring value for the cause of history and historic preservation.
The Otter Tail County Historical Society’s Water Abatement Project will alleviate water issues on the museum’s north side through landscaping and the installation of ground drains. Work will commence and be completed in the spring of 2010.
“It is wonderful to see so many communities and local organizations benefitting from the Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants,” said Britta Bloomberg, deputy state historic preservation officer. “Minnesota should be proud of the unprecedented opportunities these grants provide for organizations to preserve and share our history and cultural heritage. The impact of projects supported by the grants will be felt throughout the state for many years to come.”

Annual Meeting at Mulligan’s Pub & Eatery, Perham, MN

October 15, 2009

We are a couple of hours away from the 82nd Annual Meeting of the Otter Tail County Historical Society. Because the county seat of Otter Tail is Fergus Falls and our historical society is located in Fergus Falls we host our annual meeting every other year in Fergus Falls. However… every other year we find a location outside of Fergus Falls to host the annual meeting. This year we are heading to Perham! We are excited to be going to what some may describe at the heart of East Otter Tail County. Yippee!
